Mercedes-Benz presents as the little brother of the Sprinter and Vito. The Citan is much more than that: it is indeed the first concrete collaboration between the mark to star and the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Its specific grille cannot conceal the characteristic profile of the Kangoo, with which it shares all or almost.
Mercedes-Benz and utilities, it’s a long story. A over the years, Vito and Sprinter is are earned an enviable reputation. However, the star was limited so far to medium and large volume models, while all other trademarks of utilities offer a compact model. In September, Mercedes-Benz will repair this oversight with the Citan. To do this, the Germans took advantage of the recent agreements of collaboration with the Renault-Nissan Alliance: this novelty is indeed dressed Kangoo.
Difficult to conceal the very characteristic profile of the Kangoo. By a hood, grille and specific wings set, the Citan has a quite different facies of French cousin. The softness and the joviality of the Kangoo leave more aggressive. The front design strongly resembles that of the concept-car class A, presented at the Salon of Shanghai 2011. Rarely a Mercedes utility will have had so close look of a model of the particular range. At the back, fashion designers have designed doors and a dressing of specific fire.
The Interior can him nor deny its relationship with the Kangoo. The Citan indeed resumed in all the lower dash. The star has however included specific counters, placed in drums, and famous aerators of the brand, similar to those of Japanese… SLS AMG. The name of Citan is the contraction of “City” and “Titan”. Is this a nod to the Nissan Titan pickup? Daimler, which CITES even no the name of its partners in its press release, does ever it likely never.
Very close to the Kangoo, the Citan in resume also the wide range of versions. Is not known yet if all variants of the small French utility will resume but Mercedes-Benz already announced several lengths, either by van or passenger transport version. From the point of view of the engines, should find the famous 1.5 dCi, which double a BlueEFFICIENCY version, CO2 emissions reduced, probably under the hood by the grace of specific aerodynamic accessories. Even the Kangoo Z.E. will be taken up, since the German manufacturer confirmed an electric Citan marketing.
The Citan will be unveiled in September at the fair in Hanover and marketed in the wake, for the fall.
