It was yesterday that the information of the new 2012 BMW i8 Spyder Concept is dropped, ie 1 April. Some thought the April Fool, but this is not the case, the BMW Concept i8 Spyder does exist, it’s not a joke.
Division i of BMW offers a third vehicle, after the small urban i3 and the sporty i8. It is precisely the latter that receives a version pit discovered, named BMW i8 Spyder Concept. Cut model has already surprised by its design and elegance, the BMW i8 Spyder model took the base Coupe and the result appears bright. From the Coupe, its wheelbase is shorter, it is positioned lower, its cover is semi-transparent and it receives a collapsible roof in two parts.
Unfortunately, the latter made win 180 kg in addition to the vehicle, for a total weight of 1,630 kg. The use of lightweight materials such as carbon fiber and aluminum, to keep correct performance.
The BMW i8 Spyder Concept is a hybrid consisting of the same powertrain as the coupe. So we will find a small electric motor of 96 kW (131 hp) at the front of the vehicle engine and a turbocharged 1.5-liter 3-cylinder with an output of 223 hp and a torque of 295 lb- ft., located on the rear axle. The system has a total power of 354 horses for a couple of 405 lb-ft. The BMW i8 Spyder can travel up to 30 km all-electric mode before the gasoline engine engages to recharge the batteries and increase their autonomy. Consumption will not exceed 3 liters per 100 kilometers and its emissions are estimated at 70g/km of CO2.
Performance-wise, this is a 0 to 100 km/h completed in five seconds and a top speed of 249 km/h. And like the coupe, it is possible to choose between the two front and rear wheel drive or AWD.
No mention was given about the possible presence at the next New York Auto Show. Maybe we can see on another show, later this year.
